Dermanyssusgallinae (the common red mite) are bloody sucking ectoparasites that infest the poultry sector especially chickens and turkeys. They are generally white or greyish in color, becoming darker or redder when engorged with blood. After feeding, they hide in cracks and crevices away from daylight, where they mate and lay eggs.

Life Cycle: The lifecycle from egg to adult mite is only seven days, and they progress through 5 life stages: egg, larva, protonymph, deutonymph, and adult. Under favorable conditions, this life cycle can be completed within seven days. They start off as very small greyish-white mites that swell up into red-colored mites after a feed and at their biggest are only 0.7mm so small numbers of them can be hard to spot unless you know what to look for.

Hazardous Effects: They affect the health of the birds indirectly by serving as vectors for various diseases such as Salmonellosis, etc. Low numbers of mites mainly cause irritation and annoyance to the chicken making it restless. However, large numbers of mites can suck enough blood causing anemia in the chicken, resulting in a pale comb and wattles, weakness, dullness and reduced egg production.

Consequences Of Red Mite Infestation: Restlessness and stress in the flock; Skin irritation, reduced plumage quality, dermatitis; Feather-pecking, cannibalism
Weight loss, anemia; Negative impact on feed conversion ratio; Drop in egg production;
Increase of second-grade eggs; More susceptibility to poultry diseases; Transmission of poultry diseases and zoonosis;  Mortality in cases of extreme infestations; Health problems and stress for the farm staff.

To combat the deadly problem of Red Mite Infestation In the birds Vinayak Ingredients have launched its very unique product from its bucket of “HERBOCORE- natural origin” with a brand name “ESSENTIOLITT-I” It is a highly competent litter de-infestation system and natural mites and fly repellent.”

Mechanism Of Action: it is a blend of essential oils in diatomaceous earth as a carrier that contains diatomite which ruptures the exoskeleton made of chitin by making the insect loose moisture, cause dehydration, and thereby leading to the death of the insect. Thus we cannot mix it in water because then it will lose its desiccant effect.

  • A complete natural pest control system for the livestock industry
  • Broad-spectrum of action, eradicates all stages of the insects and also ensures an unfavorable environment for them to prevent re-infestation.
