Yeasts are unicellular eukaryotic microorganisms that are taxonomically placed within the phyla Ascomycota and Basidiomycota within the Kingdom Fungi. Selected strains of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae that occur in nature were tested for their efficacy in the animal digestive tract and propagated in pure culture. VINYEAST is such a product consisting of live yeast culture derived from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The reasons for their extensive use in food producing animals are its excellent nutritional contents and its easy supply in dried form.

Typically, VINYEAST composition is 90 – 97 percent dry matter and can contain from 30 to 45 percent crude protein nitrogen, 25 – 35 percent carbohydrates, and 3 – 7 percent lipids. A quite important fraction of the nitrogen is under the form of nucleic acids (up to 5 – 6 %). The amino acid profile is close to soybean meal and therefore well adapted to animal nutrition. It is rich in glutamic acid and lysine (up to 3 %). VINYEAST is also naturally rich in B vitamins such as biotin, thiamine and folic acid.
